III
Truth
is calm
is found in the still small voice of the breeze
invites you to listen
Truth
asks questions
points to hope
willingly lays down its life for the other
Truth
does not scream in word or action
does not exploit fear
nor randomly employ force
it does not demand submission
Truth
builds upon itself
reminds us with compassion of our mistakes
gently keeps them present
so we can learn from them the truth contained therein
There is but one truth
If you invite me to listen, I will hear
and we might find that truth together along the way
I cannot hear what you try to say when you scream
and we cannot build for tomorrow
when you destroy that which was built over many lifetimes…
when you seek to erase that which in part tries to contain truth
If you so choose, you can walk along your own path.
I might be the less for that
but truth will follow you…
If you choose, destruction will make it impossible
for you to find your way -
like in the aftermath of a terrible storm -
where street signs and familiar monuments are no more
and there is but confusion and dread
What you do in self-righteousness and in the name
of a false portrayal of justice
will certainly bear its bitter fruit
that for a moment satisfies the emptiness
until its wretchedness heaves itself
spread before you on your path
where you and others will invariably stumble and fall
into the stolen dreams murdered by the lies…
And truth will look upon this from the tree on the hill
and cry out that you might once again
turn towards the path
that leads towards the good, the beautiful, and the true….
