II
“What is truth?”
we with eyes of flesh
cannot look past
bruised and bloody garb
with proclamation and false confidence
our words and gesticulations belying fear
turning towards the wisdom of the crowds
expunging complicity by hiding therein
we dare not consider the possibility
that truth needs no words
that in silence its presence is best known
that wonder and awe, gratitude, humility and acceptance are the only fitting response
that any attempt at explanation of the why is answered only by the same truth
which comes from and returns unto itself
made manifest in space and time and in the infinite subatomic universe
where only probability seems certain
and realizing that
with all the wonders portents and signs
prophesy and miracles
the question asked by one in our stead
can only be answered
in silence
forcing us
to look
to see
to touch
to feel
what we do
to love

I
IMAGINE
As the sun rises each day, we are created anew...
CONTEMPLATE
there is still much good to be done...
and you entrust some of that work to me.
with unsteady hands and imperfect heart,
with fear and doubt watching over my shoulder
as I stoop to plant and till
to nurture the seeds of who come next
to do your work
there is still much good to be done...
and I worry that there is more than anyone can do
yet what I do for you is done unto me
be with me
at the head of the bed
or the feet of my children
near the hearts of my loved ones
or in the still of night
when only the sound of my breath keep me company
and I am alone pondering
there is still much good to be done...
